Volkswagen’s irrepressible city car is now available as an all-electric vehicle, with absolutely no emissions.
Small but mighty, the Vokswagen e-Up! won’t compromise on power, despite running on a lightweight battery. A peak torque of 210 Nm will propel the car from 0-62 mph in a swift 12.4 seconds, accelerating to hit 80mph. A re-charge is equally nippy, with 80% of the battery’s capacity filled in just 30 minutes. With the purchase of an additional wall box, the full battery can be charged in just 6 hours, with 93 miles to play with before needing more juice.
Using Volkswagen’s advanced weight-saving expertise, the e-Up! hits a mere 1,139 kg; 230 kg being the battery itself. All in all, the electric Up! is the lightest in the range, while still offering reliable road handling.
Continuing its quest to prove that small doesn’t have to mean basic, the e-Up! is packed with handy standard features. Electronic air conditioning, cruise control, parking sensors, automatic windscreen wipers and automatic headlights are all factory-fitted, along with a smartphone docking station to sync with the car’s infotainment system.
Available as a practical five-door, the e-Up! has a distinct design to set it apart from its peers. Large front bumpers and ‘C’ LED running lights make the vehicle instantly recognisable; the e-Up might be compact, but it certainly has presence.
Priced at £20,780 RRP OTR with an included Government Plug-In Car Grant of £4,500, the first deliveries of the new e-Up! are due to take place in October. To find out more, please visit www.ridgeway.co.uk/volkswagen .
