Ridgeway Volkswagen are proud to be able to support the Oxford Shooting Stars Ice Hockey Team - Oxfordshire’s premier recreational ice hockey club – as they continue their already successful local efforts abroad.
The Shooting Stars hop across the channel this weekend to defend their title in Lyon, France in the annual Tournoi Loisir de Lyon where the team will play no less than 9 games in under 48 hours.
Coach and founder of The Oxford Shooting Stars, Peter Smith, set out in 2010 to start the club with one aim in mind: Everyone can play. To this day the ethos of the club has remained solid. Over 50 players from all abilities, nationalities and ages have registered to play in the 2016/2017 season and many more come just to train and keep fit.
After a few years developing the team and playing in domestic tournaments in the UK, Peter decided to take the teams efforts international and in 2014 the Oxford Shooting Stars placed 3rd in the Lyon Ice Hockey Tournament.
In 2015 the team returned to Lyon to have another go and returned to the UK victorious, taking the trophy across the English Channel for the first time in the tournament’s history.
This weekend they return with one thing in mind, gold!
When Ridgeway Volkswagen heard that the team’s efforts were mostly funded by the players themselves, Ridgeway offered to step in and help out with logistics.
The team needed a van to transport 17 sets of kit, sticks and other equipment and Ridgeway Volkswagen happily stepped up and offered to supply a Transporter van to ensure that the team who flew out on Friday could be reunited with their kit bags in Lyon, ready for action on Saturday morning.
Andrew Lean, Brand Director of Ridgeway Volkswagen said:
