Teaming up with the world’s largest car-sharing network, Volkswagen are initiating a plan to develop the future of travel; a car on demand, to fit your needs, only for the time required. Not only does this reduce the financial strain of car ownership, but promises to reduce air pollution and congestion on the road, securing a greener tomorrow.
The ultra-low emission Golf GTE is to be the main event for the scheme, with 40 cars located in the London Borough of Westminster, and another 10 vehicles scattered throughout the capital. The 50 Golfs will be available exclusively to members of the Zipcar community, who pay a fee of as little as £7 an hour to grab a ride when required.
The Golf GTE runs using a combination of petrol and an electric motor; charged via a charging station or simply through road use, a full charge takes 2 hours and 20 minutes when plugged in. Winner of the UK’s Green Apple Awards, as well as the Green category at the BusinessCar Fleet Technology Awards, the Golf GTE is the perfect, sustainable solution for zero-emission driving and flexibility.
