The compact roadster will be re-launched as the SLC, acknowledging its close relationship to the C-Class. The SLK was launched in 1996 and has sold around 670,000 units across the globe, so the new SLC will have an exceptionally high precedent to live up to, and is certainly up to the challenge. The new model will feature an innovative vario-roof, allowing for an exhilarating drive in the summer, and unmatched comfort in the winter. The traditional sporty look of the roadster will be further defined, with a steeply raked radiator grille and DYNAMIC SELECT, a system which instantly modifies the engine, transmission, steering and suspension at the driver’s preference.
The assistance and safety systems will be at Mercedes-Benz’ renown high standard, with Active Brake Assist, an optional LED intelligent Light System, Traffic Sign Assist and Parking Assist PARKTRONIC all available to the discerning buyer.
The vario-roof is blissfully easy to use, with MAGIC SKY CONTROL allowing the glass roof to be lightened or darkened at the touch of a button, allowing for glorious sunshine or welcome shade. The boot is also the largest that the segment has to offer, with a 335 litre capacity.
COMMAND Online infotainment will also be available with the SLC, allowing for extended features such as a DVD player, internet radio, Bluetooth connectivity, LINGUATRONIC voice-operated control, two USB ports, Integral Media Interface connection for iPod or iPhone, album cover artwork display, Mercedes-Ben Emergency Call and Mercedes me standard services (accident recovery, breakdown management and telediagnostics).
The interior of the new SLC will feature light or dark aluminium trim and a carbon fibre finish, electroplated control for the electrically adjustable seats, new-generation sports steering wheel and sun-reflecting leather upholstery.
The engine has AMG-specific management at 3.0-litre V6 biturbo, 9g-TRONIC sports transmission and high-performance braking system with larger brake discs.
