Ridgeway's story has been one of continual growth and expansion and is now ranked as a Top 20 Largest Motor Retail Group in the UK and listed as 12th on the latest Sunday Times Top Track 250 league table (2014) of Britain's leading mid-market private companies. Winner of the Motor Trader "Dealer Group of the Year Award" 2012 and "Employer of the Year" 2015.
Starting out with a Volkswagen and Audi showroom in Newbury and a Volkswagen dealership in Wantage in 1997, another exciting brand was added to Ridgeway’s portfolio in 1999 when Jewson SKODA in Oxford was purchased. This was followed two years later with the addition of Volkswagen retailer Ridgeway Reading in 2001.
2004 was an exciting year from Ridgeway, acquiring Preferred Partner Status from both Volkswagen and Audi as well as opening a brand new state-of-the-art Vehicle Preparation Centre near Newbury. In 2005, a second Audi Centre was acquired by Ridgeway in Oxford and in March 2006, the company opened the doors to the new Bodyshop operation.
In December 2006, Ridgeway announced the acquisition of the Pentagon Group, which added the Mercedes-Benz, AMG and smart brands as well as the cities of Chichester, Portsmouth, Southampton and Winchester. The Pentagon Group also represents Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles Truck and Van (still under the Pentagon name) and Fuso Canter franchises which are held in Poole, Fareham, Southampton and Andover. In 2007 Ridgeway Used Car Centres in Totton, Southampton and Portsmouth were opened.
At the turn of January 2010 the Ridgeway acquired two ex-Motorworld Volkswagen passenger car retailers in Oxford based at Oxford Motor Park, Kidlington and Iffley Road, Oxford [inc. a bodyshop and accident repair centre] bringing the group's Volkswagen site representation to five.
In March 2012, Ridgeway acquired BMW and MINI dealerships located in Bournemouth, Salisbury and Hook (previously Odiham) from Wood Group Limited (these sites were rebranded from Wood to Ridgeway in August 2013). In July 2012, Ridgeway opened its third Ridgeway Used Car Centre in Wantage. In October 2012 the Group purchased Triangle Sprays, a body repair centre in Cadnam in the New Forest and opened the fourth Ridgeway Used Car Centre in Oxford Iffley Road.
In May 2013 the Group extended its SKODA reach into Newbury, opening Ridgeway SKODA Newbury. On the 30th May 2013 Ridgeway made its first foray into the Land Rover and Range Rover brands by acquiring the site located in Cumnor (A420), Oxford.
A month later, on the 29th June 2013 Ridgeway was once again on the acquisition trail by purchasing the Jaguar site located on Cumnor Hill, Cumnor, Oxford from Sytner Group Limited for an undisclosed sum. This purchase also included Ridgeway Select - a premium used car centre and Ridgeway Saab - an Authorised Saab Service Centre.
On the 5th October 2013 saw another addition to the Ridgeway portfolio - with a second Ridgeway Select site opening on the Faraday Road in Newbury. The remainder of 2013 saw the Used Car Centre's in Portsmouth and Southampton rebranded under the Ridgeway Select name too - bring Ridgeway Select representation to four sites.
Hot on the heels of summer purchases of SKODA Newbury and the Land Rover and Jaguar franchises in Oxford, Ridgeway, have strengthened and extended their brand reach by acquiring Parkview SKODA in Reading for an undisclosed sum (effective 31st October 2013) from PJA Trading Ltd.
Ridgeway, have now increased their brand portfolio to include Italian luxury car maker Maserati. Ridgeway Maserati have a dedicated stand-alone Maserati car showroom along with full service and repair facilities in Cumnor, Oxford (next door to Ridgeway Jaguar).
2015 was another huge year for Ridgeway which saw Ridgeway Volkswagen in Wantage and Oxford Iffley Road relocated to a new facility on the outskirts of Didcot - Milton Park and Jewsons SKODA remove from Abingdon Road into Oxford Audi's vacated site in Kidlington.
