More than 700 current and former employees of Land Rover’s Solihull plant have gathered to celebrate the life of 68-year-old model, while Land Rover also announced their new Heritage Restoration Programme.
Based at the Solihull site, a team of experts will oversee the restoration of a number of Series Land Rovers, sourced from all over the world, ready to go on sale in the summer of 2016.
The Defender Celebration featured a 25-vehicle procession, including the final Defender to be produced from the line. This commemorative vehicle was manufactured with a hood cleat (as seen on original Defenders and used on Soft Top specifications since 1948) and will find a home in the Jaguar Land Rover Collection.
A new digital scrapbook, the online ‘Defender Journey’ platform, will also allow Defender enthusiasts to upload their memories of the historic vehicle and preserve its memory.
