Using signature Land Rover technology, the multihall catamaran code-named ‘R1’ will be capable of speeds over 50knots, with the brand focussing on the wing – a 78.6ft carbon fibre ‘hard’ sail, the size of a Boeing 737 aeroplane wing.
Land Rover will also be lending their data processing and Machine Learning expertise to the team, identifying trends in sailing data to produce maximum performance from the vessel.
All power to the boat will be produced by the wing and sailing team, thus utilizing Land Rover’s immense expertise in human/machine interface technologies. With the majority of races won with just seconds to spare, every intricate detail must be considered in advance of the Oman leg of the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series on 26-28 February.
